Cloud-Based Phone Systems explained
Hosted – or Cloud-based phone systems are a virtual PBX (an internal telephone network system unique to a company), which gives a business the rich features and functionality of a phone system without having to incur the capital costs of buying one outright.
Before we explain all the features and benefits, let’s just explain the terminology, as it’s still a relatively new technology!
What does ‘Cloud-based’ mean?
The word ‘Cloud’ in this context basically just means ‘hosted off-site on a server, and accessed through an internet connection. We can also use the term ‘Hosted telephone system’ to describe a Cloud-based system.
How can you access the Cloud-based service?
Much like your home or business internet, you select a package and pay a monthly fee to access the service.
What is Virtual PBX?
PBXs are internal business telephone systems that connect employees so that they can communicate internally (within their company) and externally (with the outside world), using different communication channels. In the case of systems hosted in the Cloud, they become ‘Virtual’.
What is VoIP, and how does it relate to a Cloud system?
VoIP is an acronym for Voice over Internet Protocol, and simply means that all phone calls – whether internally or externally – are made over an internet connection rather than a fixed telephone line.
After suppling and installing Panasonic telephone systems for over 30 years it was quite a shock to receive notification in late 2020 that they would be pulling out of the PBX market by the end of 2022. I needed to find a replacement. This was not going to be an easy task…. big shoes to fill and all that…
Over the following 6 months, I personally evaluated several different VOIP solutions when I was introduced to Yeastar and the P series IPPBX. Straight away I was impressed. I’m very hands on with the setup and configuration of new systems and I didn’t find many areas where the P series was lacking over what was the current Panasonic system, and in some cases, it exceeded expectations!
As part of this evaluation, we installed the first system in our offices in mid-2021, instantly transforming the way we work as a team. I still have one member of our team working from home utilising video calling and this made it feel like he was present in the office with us.
We have now been installing both platforms, On Premise and Cloud versions of the P Series for 12 months and I can say the Yeastar P Series has not just replaced Panasonic, it’s been an upgrade! Yeastar P offers more functionality and collaboration than we ever had before. The system is constantly evolving incorporating new features and functionality.
And most importantly… many happy customers are now using the Yeastar P Series!
